The Madeira Whale Museum has always been concerned with the dissemination of information on cetaceans of Madeira, having developed specific educational activities for that purpose.
However only in the school year 2007/2008, within the activities considered in EMECETUS Project, co-financed by the INTERREG III B Community Initiative program, it was possible to develop the educational program for the Madeira Whale Museum. The project had the support of the Regional Education Department through the secondment of Professor Silvia Mateus Carreira. This in collaboration with biologists Luís Freitas and Cláudia Ribeiro, the Madeira Whale Museum, developed a series of support material for the Museum Educational, namely:
1 - Teacher’s manual;
2 - Didactic exercises;
3 - Cetaceans’ biodiversity poster;
4 - Educational Services’s mascot.
The materials 1, 2 and 3 were presented and discussed with teachers at an event held on February 13 at Hotel Dom Pedro - Machico.
The educational program was also presented under the IWC (International Whale Commision) held in Funchal in June 2009 (see article).
